MEN'S FRIENDSHIP
The New York Rockits Alumni (2006 Champs) are the favorites, with the SF Wildcats moving the Elite division and Montreal MMAC Mars not returning. Kenny Lee and Ed Chan will be the braun on the blocks, and pg Kevin Chung (Baruch College) will be the brain with the ball. This team is the complete package, even if they’re really just a bunch of old guys reliving the glory days. If they don’t win, there must be a conspiracy. The Philadelphia Suns B captured the Consolation title in the Friendship last year. Philly has gone back to the drawing board and returns with a completely new look. They feature big men Michael Chau and Loc Tang, as well as Phillip Wan and the NACBAIT’s biggest loser Lee Ho. The key for the Suns will be their ability to make key stops. If they make stops, they’ll make the playoffs. Markham FCCM will be led by flashy guard Darren Liu and high scoring forward Tommy Cheong. This team is no stranger to the NACBAIT, so they should do well. The Montreal Kaitas OG are just counting the days until they can play in the 35 & Over division. Until that time, they will take part in the Friendship and pass their days reminiscing on Facebook threads with each other about which Jordan commercials were the best, and wondering what ever happened to Lil Penny. 2-guard James Tsai and SF Johnson Ku will be the guys to watch this year for Montreal. New York United East has had a minor face lift this year, adding a couple solid guards to speed up the game and to add more ballhandling. They still have the same core players in Steve Liu, Jerry Lu, Man Ng and Leighton Kuet. Vet Feng Wu has hung up the sneaks and will now be coaching the team. Look for Leighton to dominate the boards in the Friendship division, and a group of speedy guards to run a faster paced United East team. They're looking to bring home the bacon. Vancouver NPG, led by Mike Chen and Edward Huang, missed the registration deadline last year, so they were one of the first teams to get their forms in this year. They’re eager to show us their own unique Canadian West Coast style of play. With a tight zone defense and solid outside shooting, Vancouver can play. The Boston Knights B will give their organization one more team of representation, and might be able to use their youth and athleticism to run past some squads. The New Jersey Raging Demonz, under the tutelage of Jason Wan, will be spending their first Memorial Day weekend at the NACBAIT. These guys play a lot on the East Coast circuit, so they should be able to pull off a decent performance if they get a good draw. Their top players may be none other than Rockits Coach Nelson Yu and lefty point guard Justin Chin. Other first timers include the New York Technicians (who also regularly compete in local tourneys), the Philadelphia Heroes led by guards Victor Rong & Jon Chan, and the New York Crossbearers B squad. The Friendship field is completed by the Toronto Sliders, who we haven’t seen in quite some time.
