Description:
This is the division where it all began and all the top players have played here.  Since 1981, the NACBA (North American Chinese Basketball Association) has staged this event in cities such as New York, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Toronto, Montreal, Washington and Las Vegas. In the past, some of the best Chinese players have competed in this tournament. Players who have left their mark in the tournament with their stellar play include Richard Chang and Robert Fong (San Francisco Saints); the guard trio of Jerry Lew, Benny Hoang and Song Cun (Los Angeles Little Horse); and the high flying Kyle Kiang and power forward phenom Jim Shih (Seattle Bladerunners).   Let's not forget to mention Conant Chi (San Francisco Saints), who has been a member of the 3-time Champion, Hung Kuo Elephants of the Taiwan Professional League. Other notables participating in the past include 7'0" Sun Fong (University of San Francisco) and 6'7" Mah Jing (University of Utah), both competed in the tournament and have gone on to play professionally overseas. In fact, many participants in this division have played at the high school or college level. But the division is really dominated by those who want to compete against the best.
The defending champs, NY USAB, will have their hands full as they attempt to stay on top of excellent teams such as the physical NY Cruisers, the uptempo Washington CYC, the outside bombing Arizona Desert Jade, the always tough Texas Ballistics, and the overly talented SF Duke.  And be sure not to overlook the Chicago Dragons led by Joe Carlini, Andrew Tsai (MIT), and Tony Ling (Northwestern U.).

Eligibility: Open to all participants of direct Chinese descent. Participants must be at least 25% Chinese (at least one grandparent must be 100% Chinese).
  • All participants must be at least 18 years old and can play for only one team.
  • Maximum team roster of 12 players
  • At the tournament, all participants must present some type of photo identification (passport, birth certificate, driver's license, etc.) that proves their age or nationality. If a protest is lodged, the burden of proof is on you to prove otherwise. Be sure to bring legible copies or originals of parents/grandparents documentation as verification. Failure to do so will result in the player(s) disqualification from the tournament.
  • Use of ineligible players will result in forfeit of any games played and possible team disqualification from the tournament.
  • Format: Men’s Open (12 team limit) and Men’s Elite (16 team limit), open draw with the following exceptions

    • First preference in registration will be given to teams who have participated in the previous NACBAIT, as well as the team who won the previous year’s Friendship division.
    • This year we will be adding a new twist to the action, as the NACBA will select 16 Elite teams out of the pool of Men’s Open teams to compete in the highest division of Chinese Basketball.
    • The Final Four teams from the previous year’s NACBAIT are guaranteed bids into the Elite division.
    • In order to preserve longstanding tradition, four Elite bids will also be reserved for the “founding member” teams, as represented on the NACBA Executive Committee.
    • If any of the previous year’s Final Four teams are founding member teams, then it will open up one additional spot.
    • There is also a guaranteed spot for the team who captured the previous year’s Men’s Open Championship.
    • Teams not selected for the Men’s Elite Division will compete in the original division, the Men’s Open.
    • Each team is guaranteed to play in at least 3 games throughout the tournament.
    • 18 minutes per half, 3 timeouts per game, NCAA rules apply, all other rules to be announced at a later date
    • All games officiated by NCAA and/or PIAA certified referees

    Description:
This is the division for “veteran” players who still want to compete, but want to compete against guys their own age.  Each team is guaranteed to play in at least three games throughout the tournament. 2008 will mark the tenth anniversary of the Men's Senior 35+over division. Since its inception, it has been dominated by teams from the east coast, the NY Titans (1999), NJ Pirates (2000, 2001, 2006), and the Philadelphia Suns (2002), CCYAA Toronto Masters (2004, 2005, & 2007).   The lone exception was 2003 in Las Vegas, when the highly acclaimed San Francisco Saints returned to the tournament and dominated from beginning to end.  This year’s edition, will see the NJ Pirates trying to repeat as well as extend their championship dreams with a fourth title.  Stalwarts Beaver Ho, Rich Lo, Teddy Hom, and Steve Lee will be bringing their “A” game this year as well as their families. This year's edition will see the NJ Pirates attempt to extend their Championship Dreams with a fourth title  Three- time champions themselves, Toronto CCYAA will be led by perennial all star, 6’6” Richard Zhu.  This 40+ old superstar, Rich can dominate on the inside and hit the trey with ease.  The Chicago Dragons will be led by their all star, Robert Choy.  While the Boston Knights look toward the return of their dominant big man, Ed Chu, who played in the men’s elite division in 2006.  Perhaps, this will be the year that a west coast team challenges for a title.
