Toronto Black Kois Wins the Great White North Liberty Battle

The Liberty Division gave new teams and less experienced teams their own chance to take home a NACBAIT title.  For these 7 teams, the place to be this weekend was in Philly.  In the Consolation Finals, the NY Sabres Green took the Chip 31-21 behind Ashley Lee’s 6 first half buckets.  In the Medal Round it was an All-Canada battle as all 4 teams hailed from the land of the Mounties. In the first game, the talented Montreal MMAC Magic rode Anneth Him’s 15 points and 11 rebounds to a 35-21 win over the Toronto Ravens.  Kim Ngai paced the newly formed Ravens with 10 points.  The second Semifinal was over pretty quickly as the Toronto Black Koi jumped on Toronto CCYAA at the opening tap.  Kim Lee (16 pts, 4 steals) and Tina Tseng (7 pts, 4 rebounds) gave Toronto an early 15 point lead, which they maintained on their way to a 34-18 dub.  Toronto was led by All-Tournament selection Jocelin On (3 points, 3 assists).  The Championship was the undefeated Toronto Black Koi and the undefeated Montreal MMAC Magic.  What was on the line here was a bid in the Women’s Open division for 2009.  This was one of the best games of the Tournament, with Anneth Him (20 pts, 2-4 ft, 9 rebs, 2 assists) and Kim Lee (21 pts, 3 trifectas, 6-7 ft’s, 5 assists, 2 steals, MVP trophy) going head to head in a great individual battle.  Both of these players are excellent talents, with the ability to play in the upper division.  It was all tied up 14-14 at the midpoint.  In the second half, Anna Pastrana and Tina Tseng gave Kim some much needed assistance, and Toronto took the trophy 40-36.  Good job to both teams on a great tourney.
