Hot Off The Press - 28th Annual NACBA Tournament Preview & 28 Players to WatchThe highly anticipated annual NACBA Tournament Preview & Players to Watch is here. Read what is to come this year and the top 28 players to watch at this year's tournament in Philly. The preview is out, so let the games begin! |
The Official NACBAIT Preview We begin with the Toronto CCYAA Seniors (2004, 2005, 2007 Champs). Relying on Richard Zhu as their main man, you wonder how this team can ever lose. Last year’s backcourt additions of David Kuo and Stanley Ong really paid dividends against the “fast” teams at this level. Big man Jeff Fong takes some of the pressure of Richard inside. This team should return to the winner’s circle and make the Finals without breaking a sweat. The team who would most like to stand in Toronto’s way is their nemesis- the New Jersey Pirates (1999, 2000, 2001, 2006 Champs). Ted Hom defends the opposing team’s top guard, while Beaver Ho puts points on the board. Steve Lee still runs like a gazelle, while 6-3 Rich Lo and 6-4 Brad Liu will no doubt be inside monsters. The Chicago Dragons Seniors utilize star Robert Choy in every possible way. He does a little bit of everything, from guarding opposing stars to handling the rock to dropping buckets. Pound for pound, there may not be a better or smarter player in this tournament. If Chicago wants to reach the Finals, the supporting cast of Henry Yue, Steve Hugh, and George Fong better come to play. The Boston Knights Senior reached the 2006 Finals, but ended up in the Consolation division in 2007 after a killer draw in their pool. Ed Chu and Rich Lee will lead this team as they seek a return to the Chip. The Montreal MMAC Seniors will be coming back this year for another run, as Tong Zu takes over the squad this year. The final team playing this year will be the local Philadelphia PCDC team captained by John Chin. One guy you better watch out for here is Peter “Old School” Fong. This 50-something guy still plays in the summer leagues and local tournaments. His fadeaway is unstoppable. Another player that will be featured is NACBA veteran center Mino Kelekolio. He’s a real load underneath, |
