<empty> Entry Fee Per Team: $650 + $50 NACBA Fee + $100 Refundable Deposit + $100 Late Fee

Description:  This is the division where it all started back in 1981.  The Men’s Elite Division has a rich tradition and represents the best competing with the best.  At the Fort Lauderdale 2009 Tourney, the caliber of play and talent produced by teams from across the US and Canada was certainly something to see.  Led by 6-4 post phenom Jim Shih, PG Austin Yuen (Seattle Pacific U.), and 6-7 superstar SF Kyle Kiang, the Seattle Bladerunners proved themselves to be the cream of the crop in Chinese Basketball- as they followed up their 2008 title with another notch on their belt.  Despite intense competition from fellow Final Four squads such as the Chicago Dragons, Washington CYC, and the Toronto Dragons, Seattle came through when it counted.  Will Seattle capture their 6th NACBAIT title, or will someone else step up their game?  Expect tough challenges from the NY RL Cruisers, Boston Hurricanes AAU, Texas Ballisitcs, NY USAB Warriors, Arizona Desert Jade, and Norcal Hoopaholics.

Eligibility:  Open to all participants of direct Chinese descent. Participants must be at least 25% Chinese (at least one grandparent must be 100% Chinese).

  • All participants must be at least 16 years old and can play for only one team.
  • Maximum team roster of 12 players
  • At the tournament, all participants must present some type of photo identification (passport, birth certificate, driver's license, etc.) that proves their age or nationality. If a protest is lodged, the burden of proof is on you to prove otherwise. Be sure to bring original copies of parents/grandparents documentation as verification.  Failure to do so will result in the player(s) disqualification from the tournament.
  • Use of ineligible players will result in forfeit of any games played and possible team disqualification from the tournament.
  • Format: 16-24 team limit

    • The NACBA will select 16-24 Elite teams from the pool of Men’s Open/Mens Open Elite teams to compete in the highest division of Chinese Basketball. Teams will be selected based on their previous performance(s) at the NACBAIT, and NACBA approved events.
    • The Final Four teams from the 2009 Elite division are guaranteed bids into the Elite division.
    • In order to preserve longstanding tradition, four Elite bids will also be reserved for the “founding member” teams, as represented on the NACBA Executive Committee: Boston Knights, Chicago Dragons, NY Rockits, and Philadelphia Suns.
    • If any of the previous year’s automatically qualifying teams are founding member teams, then it will open up one additional spot.
    • There is also a guaranteed spot for the team who captured the previous year’s lower division Championship.
    • Teams not selected for the Men’s Elite Division will compete in the Men’s Open division.
    • Each team is guaranteed to play in at least 4 games throughout the tournament.
    • After initial round robin group play, teams from each group may advance into the playoff round or the consolation round.
    • 18 minutes per half, 3 timeouts per game, NCAA rules apply, all other rules to be announced at a later date.
    • All games officiated by NCAA certified referees.
    <empty> Entry Fee Per Team: $600 + $50 NACBA Fee + $100 Refundable Deposit + $100 Late Fee

Description:  Created in 2008, the Mens Open division is suited for competitive teams that are just a notch below the Elite level of teams, but desire something a little more competitive than the Friendship division.  SF CCU took the 2008 title, defeating the Montreal Kaitas A.  Expect some stellar play this year in Toronto, as several local teams could surprise some of the more established programs.

Description: This is the “just for fun” division, but don’t think some good games are not being played here.  Rookie, long in the tooth tournament guru, or anywhere in between- it doesn’t matter.  The Friendship Division is perfect for young teams, older teams comprised of friends just getting together for the weekend, or teams who just want to have a good time, visit a new city, and play some hoops.  Last year, the Phila Suns C (now Phila Fastball) overcame a 20 point deficit with 10 minutes to go in the Semifinals v/s NY AA, and captured the title in dramatic fashion.  Those players have now moved on up, so who will be the ones pumping their fists this year in Canada?

Description: This is the division for “veteran” players who still want to compete, but prefer to compete against guys their own age.  Each team is guaranteed to play in at least three games throughout the tournament. 2010 will mark the 12th anniversary of the Men's Senior 35+over division. Since its inception, it has been dominated by teams from the east coast, the NY Titans (1999), NJ Pirates (2000, 2001, 2006), the Philadelphia Suns Sr. (2002),  and the Toronto CCYAA Seniors (2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009).   The lone exception was 2003 in Las Vegas, when the highly acclaimed San Francisco Saints returned to the tournament and dominated from beginning to end.  This year’s edition will see the NJ Pirates trying to extend their championship dreams with a fourth title.  Stalwarts Beaver Ho, Rich Lo, Teddy Hom, and Steve Lee will be bringing their “A” game this year as well as their families. Four-time champions themselves, Toronto CCYAA will be led by their perennial all star, 6’6” Richard Zhu.  This 40+ old superstar can dominate on the inside and hit the trey with ease.  The Chicago Dragons will be led by their own all star, Henry Yue.  The Boston Knights will return with their dominant big man, Ed Chu, as well as an infusion of “youthful” 35-36 year olds.  Perhaps, this will be the year that a west coast team challenges for a title. Will the San Francisco Saints be making a return trip to stake their claim?

Description: Something for the younger kids, as they will get some run in the National Spotlight. 2009 marked the fourth time this division has been played as a part of the NACBA Nationals.  With the popularity of Chinese basketball at a all-time high, this division will offer the opportunity for these young hoopsters to participate in a high caliber national basketball tournament.  This will truly be an exciting time for these hoop dreamers. In 2009 we witnessed the Toronto CCYAA Youth 15’s capturing the coveted title in a nail biting and controversial title game over the NY USAB Warriors 15.  Toronto looks to hold onto their crown as they will be playing on their home turf this year.  We expect strong challenges from the Maryland Pistons, New York Rockits and Philly Suns in 2010.
