BOYS JUNIORS 18 & UNDER

The NY USAB 18’s have the talent to win a 6th straight NACBA title.  They are simply head and shoulders above the competition.  PG Devin Figueroa (2008 Youth MVP, 2009 Juniors MVP) is a smooth operator, and he teams with 6-1 all around achiever Kevin Chang to form the greatest duet in this year’s Juniors.  6-2 Thomas Chu can step out to hit that jumper, and 6-1 Russell Huang holds his own in the trenches.  With 3-point leader Kevin Cai behind the arc and PG Jeff Chan pestering the opposition, USAB has a pair of 2009 All-NACBAIT picks in supporting roles.  USAB is ready this year.  The NY Young Life Rockits might have a chance to unseat USAB at the top, with 6-2  centers Eddie Zheng and Jacky Liang underneath and a host of guards on the perimeter.  Jimmy Lau, Cheuk Wong, Mike Pang, Raymond Fung, and Kyle Lew are experienced and form a tough group to match up with.  When you play the Rockits, they make you play their brand of basketball.  It’s a polished, spread you out, drive and dish offense that is a result of years in the same system.  Maryland Pistons 18’s features a few players who have finally moved up from the Youth division.  Trevor Taylor, Robbie Lim, and PG Tommy Cung are the best of the lot. The Markham FCCM 18’s coached by Wilfred Lam feature a core of strong cagers who have been playing together for many seasons now.  6-1 Eric Yeung, Edmond Lee, and Angus Lam form a good trio, but this team’s destiny will be based on whether the rest of the crew can step up their game to the next level.  The host team Toronto CCYAA Juniors will have a contending team once again.  6-4 Tian Zheng can pop the elbow shot, is an unselfish player, and is generally a big order for most teams to slow down.  Tommy Wu, Preston Lam, and Vincent Chung add previous NACBA experience to this talented crew.  They went down to the Pre-NACBAIT Classic in April and were able to finish in 2nd place in the Men’s Friendship, so CCYAA clearly has the talent to hang in the Juniors.  They’ve got some pressing and trapping up their sleeve.  The newly formed NY HS Crossbearers will look to Yin You and Leslie Leung for leadership. The grouping is filled out with the York South Silver Knights (a local club hoops team with a large portion of Chinese Canadians), Montreal Eagles, Boston Knights Juniors, and Chicago Dragons 18’s.
