Mens Open Elite Division

Entry Fee Per Team: $650 + $50 NACBA Fee + $100 Late Fee + $200 Refundable Deposit

Description:  This is the division where it all started back in 1981. The Men's Elite Division has a rich tradition and represents the best competing with the best. 2011 saw the return of the legendary LA Alpine squad, who returned after an 8 year hiatus. Coach Wong's team picked up right where they left off, capturing their 9th NACBA title over Washington CYC A (8 Final Fours). This year, expect the 6-time Champion Seattle Bladerunners to be back in the trophy hunt, in addition to the NY RL Cruisers (3 Final Fours), the NY USAB Warriors A (3 Final Fours), the Boston Hurricanes (3 Final Fours), and the Toronto Dragons A (3 Final Fours). Potential upset bugs could come from the Toronto Titans and the 2011 Mens Open Champion NY Crossbearers A.

Eligibility:  Open to all participants of direct Chinese descent. Participants must be at least 25% Chinese (at least one grandparent must be 100% Chinese).

  • All participants must be at least 16 years old and can play for only one team.

    • The NACBA will select 12-16 Elite teams from the pool of Men's Open/Mens Elite teams to compete in the highest division of Chinese Basketball. Teams will be selected based on their previous performance(s) at the NACBAIT, and NACBA approved events.
    • The Final Four teams from the 2011 Elite division are guaranteed bids into the Elite division.
    • In order to preserve longstanding tradition, four Elite bids will also be reserved for the "founding member" teams if they opt to enter a team into this division: Boston Knights, Chicago Dragons, NY Rockits, and Philadelphia Suns.

    • There is also a guaranteed spot for the team who captured the previous year's Open Championship.
    • Teams not selected for the Men's Elite Division will compete in the Men's Open division.

    Mens Open Division

Description:  Created in 2008, the Mens Open division is suited for competitive teams that are just a notch below the Elite level of teams, but desire something a little more competitive than the Friendship division. Last year, 16 teams took to the courts in a battle for the right to move up to the Elite division in 2012. The NY Crossbearers showed that the were the best team in the 2011 field, so who will emerge as the top dog in Richmond? We expect teams like the Philly Suns A, NY USAB Warriors B, and Texas to contend. Also watch out for Montreal Mars and LA Anchormen (2011 Friendship Champs), who will move up from the lower division.

    Mens Seniors 35 Division

    Entry Fee Per Team: $600 + $50 NACBA Fee + $100 Late Fee + $200 Refundable Deposit

Description: This is the division for "veteran" players who still want to compete, but prefer to compete against guys their own age. Each team is guaranteed to play in at least three games throughout the tournament. 2012 will mark the 14th anniversary of the Men's Senior 35+over division. Since its inception, it has been dominated by teams from the east coast, the NY Titans (1999), NJ Pirates (2000, 2001, 2006), the Philadelphia Suns Sr. (2002), and the Toronto CCYAA Seniors (2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011). The lone exception was 2003 in Las Vegas, when the highly acclaimed San Francisco Saints returned to the tournament and dominated from opening tap to final buzzer. Will the west coast based Saints be making a return trip to stake their claim? In 2011, Toronto was pushed to the brink by a speedy Boston Knights Seniors team.
