WOMEN'S LIBERTY

2010’s overwhelming favorite will be the Montreal MMAC Magic.  PG Tweety Ho is a perennial All-NACBA performer, while F Anneth Him (McGill), F Marie Li Sicard (AIU), and G Diane Ros (Montmorency) are all more than capable of hanging with the big girls in the Women’s Open, so this team is looking to capture this year’s Liberty title and earn the auto bid into the Open for 2011.  They could be so dominant that it may seem like everyone else is playing for second place.  The NY Lady Rockits lost in the first round of the Women’s Open consolation last year, and will move down to the Liberty this year hoping to score some W’s under new coach Kevin Low (NYU, NACBA Top 30).  All-NACBA F Diane Wong is out this year with a stress fracture so 5-10 C Tracy Ng (2007, 2009 All-NACBAIT) will bear the brunt of the load in the paint.   The NY Sabres Red have also made a coaching change, as former Rockits U coach Virgilio Borbo Jr. brings his high energy style to the Sabres program.  He’s got a good guard corps in Solange Wong and Carmen Ng to work with.  The NY Sabres Green is actually a team composed of young ladies all aged 16 or younger.  They represent the future of the NACBA, and will be paced by big Kristin Lew in the post.  Host team Toronto CCYAA also places a team in the Liberty division, as they too have their eyes on the future.  Jocelin On will be their hoops diva.  The final team in the Liberty hails from halfway across the world, as the South Africa Spartans will test the waters of the NACBAIT. Their best all around player is Caroline Ming, who has experience in the South African club system.  She will be supported by Toronto local Loni Loy Son (former provincial team) and speedy young ‘un Ashley Si.
