NCAA MEN’S rules apply in all games subject to the following modifications:
- Each team will play in at least 3 or 4 games (dependent upon which division) throughout the tournament. Upon completion of the preliminaries, teams will advance into the playoff round dependent of their seeding.
- During preliminary round play, the length of each game is 18 minutes per half. The first half is running time with the last 15 seconds stop time. The last two minutes of the game is stop time. The clock stops on all time outs. In the Mens Elite, Mens Open, and Womens Open Medal Round playoffs/championships, each game will be 20 minutes per half.
- Overtime will be as follows: 3 minutes total with the last minute=stop time.
- Each team will be entitled to three (3) time outs per game. They do not carry over into overtime. Each team is allowed one time out in the overtime period. Halftime is two (2) minutes.
- One and one situation will be in effect on the seventh (7) team foul. Two shots will be awarded on the tenth (10) team foul. Players may enter the free throw lane on the release of the ball, while the shooter waits until it hits.
- Each team must begin the game with five players. After fouling out, a player may not reenter
- Each player is allowed five (5) personal fouls and on the fifth foul that player will be disqualified. If a team has less than five players on the court, they can continue to play or forfeit or until the team has less than two players.
- Flagrant fouls will be penalized with foul shots and/or ejection from the tournament. Fighting is strictly forbidden and players and/or teams may be disqualified from the tournament. The following penalties will be assessed immediately: 1st fight – player or players will be disqualified from the tournament. 2nd fight – team will be disqualified from the tournament. Other penalties to follow.
- A team not ready to start their game will forfeit. Teams are required to be present (30 minutes prior) at the designated court for their game.
- Each team must wear uniforms that are of the same color and with numbers designated on the front or back. Failure to do so will result in technical fouls for each player without the proper color and a number. Each team should have two sets of colored shirts (one light color and one dark color).
- All participants must present some type of photo identification (passport, birth certificates, etc.) that proves their age or nationality. Original documents are required if a protest is lodged, the burden of proof is on you to prove otherwise. Failure to do so will result in your disqualification from the game and tournament. All protests must be lodged by the coach and/or team captain by notifying the tournament coordinator in the respective gym before the start of any scheduled game.
- Players may only participate on one team. Any player caught playing on another team within the same tournament will result in the disqualification of himself and that other team from the tournament.
- After the jump ball to begin the game, all ties ups will be decided by the alternate possession rule.
- NO DUNKING, ATTEMPTS AT DUNKING, OR GRABBING THE RIM IS PERMITTED, EXCEPT DURING THE GAME. Teams will be assessed technical fouls for this infraction.
- TEAM FORFEITS: Any team that forfeits a game either by not showing up on time or walking off the court during a game may be disqualified from the tournament pending the approval of the NACBA Executive Committee. In addition, the team and/or organization may also be banned from the NACBA Invitational Tournament
for a period of not more than three (3) years.
- Tie-Breaking Procedure: A) Two teams tied: Head to Head won/loss between the two tied teams. B) Three teams tied: To determine first place among the three tied teams: Head to Head Won/Loss, then Point Differentials between the three teams tied. To determine second place among the remaining two teams, Head to Head won-loss between the remaining two teams. C) Four teams tied: To determine first place among the four tied teams: Head to Head Won/Loss, then points between the four teams tied. Then revert to previous tie breaking procedures for three teams tied and two teams tied.
- Point Differentials: The maximum that you can beat a team and still gain an advantage is 15 points. Blowouts are NOT encouraged.
- Work Teams: teams are required to work their assigned games during preliminary play and during the single elimination playoff/consolation round of the tournament. Failure to do so shall result in forfeit of the team’s next game, disqualification from the tournament and a ban from the NACBA Invitational Tournament
for a period of not more than two (2) years plus loss of the team work fee.
- Food and Drink: Please refrain from bringing food/drinks inside the gymnasium. They should be consumed outside in the lobby/meeting areas. In addition, please throw all garbage in their proper receptacles. Repeated violations will be penalized accordingly.
- Conduct: The NACBA has a zero tolerance policy in reference to fighting and acts of violence. Any player or team personnel committing an act of violence or receiving a technical foul for fighting will be ejected from the game and disqualified for the remainder of the tournament and asked to leave the venue immediately and, if circumstances warrant, violators will be remanded to local law enforcement authorities. Also, at tournament staff/director’s discretion, any player, coach, team support personnel, tournament participant, or fan exhibiting conduct unbecoming to the event, may be subject to disqualification from the tournament and venues at any time.
- Player check-in: first time players/participants and other designated players will be required to check-in beginning on Friday may 23rd, 2008. The time and place will be announced at a later date. No player will be able to participate without checking-in prior to the first game. Participating without checking in may result in a team’s forfeit of that game.
- All other rules: The NACBA Executive Committee will make any other decisions with regards to the 2008 NACBA Invitational Tournament in the interests of sportsmanship, fairness, time, etc. The decisions are final.
